Frostbite
by Cheryl Li
"Time for dinner!" a voice shouted. "Alright, coming." Said Frostbite as she walked up the corridor and into the large, silver room. There was a large, silver table with raw lizards, cow, buffalo, chicken, and all of her favourite foods! She was so hungry she felt like she could eat all of the foods in the world! There seated the Queen and all her subjects. As she sat down and waited for her mother to give her permission to eat, she heard a roar! At first,, she thought the noise was inside the kingdom and that somebody must have stepped on somebody else's tail by accident. But then, she heard talking! "Shush! You're going to wake her up! Let's go talk somewhere else thats quiet. "Alright." But it was not in the kingdom. Who was talking? And what are they talking about? Maybe this was a dream, a good one, and Frostbite didn't want to leave it, but she also want to know what they are saying. If she woke up now, then nobody would lift her from her wonderful dream. She wanted to find out, but the hunger pulled her back. So she tried eating one of the foods, but when she was about to eat it, she heard a voice!
''Wake up!'' Frostbite's dream vanished and she got lifted into the cold and darkness around her as she opened her eyes, it was like being lifted out of the clouds. She then saw a big, black dragon. "Follow me," He said "The queen wants to see you." As Frostbite followed him, she saw caves all around her! Wow, She thought I wonder what they do with these caves. She then came upon a big cave with jewels, rubies, and gold around it! This must be the queen's cave! Guessed Frostbite.
The dragon led her in it and she saw a giant, black dragon with gold and jewels embedded in her body! This must be the queen. Thought Frostbite ''What a lovely ice dragon!" Said the queen "I never knew there was a princess as lovely as this. So, what I want you to do is to tell me, Frostbite, where your secret kingdom is, and if you do, I will make you the next queen." "No! I will not." Said Frostbite sternly "Tell me." Said the queen "Or else..." "No!" Shouted Frostbite "Then your life shall be gone." Then she tried to jump on Frostbite, just as she was about to do it, Frostbite told a lie about where her secret Kingdom was, since it was the only option. "FINE! I'll tell you, it's in a hole that leads to a tunnel at the tallest mountain in the north." "Thank-you." Said the queen nicely. "Now, Darkness." Said the queen sternly, turning to the big, black dragon "Take her to the testing cave and test her power." "Alright, your Majesty." Said Darkness as he led Frostbite to the hall of caves again.
Frostbite did not like this kingdom and queen, not even one bit! First, the dark dragons captured her for no reason! And now, they are testing her! She HATES this queen! Thinking of the queen, a thought struck her, the queen knew her name, but exactly how did she know it?Does she know something else about her? What do they even want from me! Thought Frostbite so loudly that she accenly said it out loud "What did you say?" Growled Darkness "Um... nothing." Stammered Frostbite "Just... Just thinking of my kingdom."
Then, Darkness led Frostbite to one of the caves full of prison rooms that made Frostbite have this quick vision of her staying here, eating prison food until she dies. That made her shake a little, but luckily, Darkness didn't seem to notice that. Frostbite was put in one of the rooms where she was given different weird objects to use her power on. After she was given the last object, which was an emerald scale-like object. Frostbite got tired of spraying ice and being captured and tested on, and besides, it would be the perfect time to kill Darkness (The dragon who gave her those objects.), her least favourite and almost entirely evil dragon she's ever met (And, for some reason, her frost breath wouldn't work on the object!) But he flew away. Frostbite tried to chase him, but the chains he had put on her held her back! "Whew!" Said Darkness as he came back, panting "That was close, maybe I should ask the queen if she could train and put you in the army." "NO!" Cried Frostbite, she HATES being in an army, especially in another dragon's army. "But why? That would definitely be fun." Said Darkness as he led Frostbite back to the hallway of caves.
She looked out the holes that were on the hallway and found that the sky had gone dark, it seems as twelwe hours was just a few seconds! But Frostbite quickly remembered Darkness had just asked her a your-truth-will-be-out-soon-if-you-don't-think-of-a-lie-fast-enough question and she had to think of a lie to tell Darkness, and needed to be quick to come up with it. "Because...because," Frostbite stammered "Because I don't like to hurt dragons that didn't attack, hurt, or make me mad that badly." "Alright," Said Darkness, "But promise me one thing, promise me you won't escape, then I won't ask the queen and I'll give you this." And with that, he pulled out a scale-like emerald object, with a thick, sturdy line of silver around it. It was the exact, same object that she was tested on, but her frost breath didn't work on that object! Frostbite really wanted to know what it is. It seemed as Darkness had read her mind, because he said "This object is a piece of ice-proof emeralds, these are very rare and dangerous, because they fall from the sky at a random night and might hurt you or even kill you! We are testing other dragons on this object to see if the object is immune to their powers." "Oh!" Said Frostbite "Thank-you." "We have loads of these." Darkness bragged "Now, I think it's time for you to sleep." And so, she went into the dormitory in which Darkness had led her and crawled onto her rock-hard bed, (but she loved sleeping on hard stuff anyway) and fell asleep.
It was already morning when Frostbite woke up. She is usally an early bird who wakes up while it's still dark. "Oh! You're awake already!" Said a voice which turned out to be Darkness's "Just in time for breackfast." He said as he threw a burnt pig at Frostbite. She doesn't like eating burnt stuff, they taste bitter, very bitter! But she ate it anyways.
Darkness then led her to a gigantic cave full of weird things that looked like bones, he walked up a bone that looked like a skull and opened it's jaw, inside was a golden necklace made of chains, the gold gleamed as the sunlight reflected off it, it was the most beautiful thing Frostbite had ever seen! She wanted to steal it from him and keep it, surely that would make her parents proud. "Here, try this on." Said Darkness "Why should I?" Asked Frostbite, confused why is Darkness asking her to try the necklace on? What's the point? "Fine, but if I told you that you could keep it, would you still want to where it?" Here was her chance! Her chance to prove her parents that she was worthy! Frostbite HAD to say yes "Fine." The words seemed to go out of her mouth by themselves. She really didn't want to say that yet, but she did. So Darkness slid the necklace on her neck. Then, she felt a pain on her temples, then, a vision appeared! It was about her kingdom with dragons from the tribe of Darkness coming into it. "An invasion", Frostbite guessed. "That's right." sang Darkness "If you behave well, I could maybe even set you free from here to protect your kingdom!'' Protecting my kingdom, Frostbite thought, that would be great! But what if he's tricking me? What if he wants me to listen to him so he could get her to fight her own kingdom? Frostbite shivered at that thought, she really didn't like the picture of her fighting her own tribe. Blue ice dragon's blood everywhere. She shook out that thought, "I think... I think I would listen to you." "Good"
